The Lighting Equipment Room (LER) & Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Replacement project at Sydney Airport (SYD) consists of the replacement of 3 airside underground storage tanks with new above-ground tanks.
SYD has 6 LERs located at the ends of each runway which supply power to the Aeronautic Ground Lighting electrical network. Each room has a diesel generator for redundancy with the fuel for the generators stored in USTs at the Western Lighting Equipment room (WLER), Northern Lighting Equipment Room (NLER), and Southern Lighting Equipment Room (SLER).
These USTs require replacement due to an increased risk of environmental damage associated with ageing infrastructure. The new above-ground tanks will mitigate the environmental risk and improve the resilience of the LERs as critical infrastructure used to retain runway lighting.
Scope of works includes:
All works are carried out in line with sensitive airside and security requirements.
